The Gospel is "Euaggelion" in the Greek - G2098... Translating as, "Good tidings" or "Good news".
What is this good news? That Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ~ "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
The Lexicon goes on in greater detail...
"The glad tidings of the kingdom of God soon to be set up, and subsequently also of Jesus the Messiah, the founder of this kingdom. After the death of Christ, the term comprises also the preaching of (concerning) Jesus Christ as having suffered death on the cross to procure eternal salvation for the men in the kingdom of God, but as restored to life and exalted to the right hand of God in heaven, thence to return in majesty to consummate the kingdom of God."
"Thence to return in majesty to consummate the kingdom of God..."
Mark 1:14-15 ~ "14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
It wasn't until Mark 8, 9 and 10 that the disciples understood that Jesus would die for their sins.
2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 ~ "7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"
1 Peter 4:17 ~ "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"
How do we obey the Gospel? How do we obey that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day?
The Gospel is that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day. How do we obey that?
I'm not adding to the Gospel... For I'm glorifying God in what He has taught me to do by grace.
By His grace He has died for me. (2 Corinthians 8:9, Romans 5:8)
By His grace He has taught me to do His will. (Matthew 6:10)
By His grace He has taught me to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. (Titus 2:11-12)
By His grace I can do NOTHING. I can take no glory or credit. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
1 Corinthians 15:10 ~ "But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me."
Leading us right back to 1 Corinthians 15... The same chapter the Gospel is told...
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ~ "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
Christ died for us so we could live... His grace teaches us to die with Him.
Romans 6:3-4 ~ "3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."
John 3:3 ~ "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
I am obeying the Gospel by being crucified with Christ by His grace. He led by example! We are made to glorify Him. (Isaiah 43:7).
Revelation 14:6-7 ~ "6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters."
God was glorified in Jesus when the time had come for Jesus to be crucified...
John 13:31 ~ "Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him."
Luke 9:23 ~ "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
2 Corinthians 5:17 ~ "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Galatians 2:20 ~ "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
Galatians 5:24 ~ "And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts."
Galatians 6:14 ~ "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."
Ephesians 4:24 ~ "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."
Colossians 2:12 ~ "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."
2 Timothy 2:8-11 ~ "8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: 9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. 10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:"
Are you obeying the Gospel? Jesus died for a purpose.
1 Peter 2:24 ~ "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."
Hebrews 10:26 ~ "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"
Jude 1:4 ~ "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."
